Peak Halibut Season?

They are always out there lurking, right? They always eat, right?

For me, catching halibut has been pretty random and elusive. I know what I've read and I've tried all the sage advice I can find. But in the end, I can't really say that any of that has paralleled my own experience except by hopeful thinking.

I've caught big halibut in winter. I've had flurries of smaller halibut in the late summer. Many times I catch nothing, no matter how much I want a halibut and think they should love to be on my hook. Some years are better than others. My favorite fishing spots are always evolving. I have caught halibut in waist deep water and at 125'. I have caught halibut as an unexpected by-catch when I was targeting something else.

Sorry Pal, but I ain't got nuttin concrete, regular, or predictable to offer! There are many variables. Sometimes I catch my best fish when least expected. I'm always trying to improve my odds.
