That said, I've eaten plenty of rays before, and this was the only one that I got sick from, also it was on the larger side, which I would recommend avoiding, as the cartilage can be too tough for quick cooking methods and is probably better cooked separately as in shark fin soup.

On further review, it could have been a longtail stingray.
