Unfortunately caravans are what the highwaymen are targeting....why pull over one car when there are 3 grouped nicely together...3 times the loot. Just stick to the #1 rule...don't drive at night and you'll be ok. I just got back from La Bocana and there is heavy military presence at the border which has calmed things down. I drove down 15 times in '06 when the violence was peaking and I never had a problem.

glad to hear that you had no problems. I have not been south of the border in 2 years due to the safety issues. really miss the empty beaches and the home made tequila from Puerto Nuevo. not to mention the great fishing.
