It sucks that guys without 4x4 (that know what they are doing) will not be able to use the actual beach but there are plenty of morons waiting to f' it up for the rest.
I was launching one day last week and a group of 4 guys drove 2 cars onto the entrance sand and exit side sand to unload their yaks. They backed up the entire launch to do their own thing. Two OEX trucks were waiting outside and I was waiting to get out. One got stuck and the other almost got stuck.

Not once did it occur to them how selfish or stupid that was.
Could you imagine if both had been stuck? No way in or out till someone came to their rescue

There are several problems this time of year. 1st crowds, pedestrians, that walk through the boat launch area, not mindful. But, then again, it just looks like part of the beach, and many people are from out of town, so they are clueless that a boat launch exists.

2nd, it was super high tide yesterday, there was little to no room on the beach, especially near the ramp. The sand was all mixed up, deep, and unpacked.

3rd, I used to drive a 2WD truck, I foolishly purchased. I never got stuck, and launched during busy days in the summer. The problem with 2wd trucks (rear wheel drive) you need to pick a line, and get a head of steam, let off gas, so you don't spin your tires. Then come the tourists, so make you stop. You can rock out of trouble, or low air in tires, but I am in agreement with others, on very busy days, esp tourneys, I always used wheels.

Eric (undrH2Ohntr) has a zodiak, so his situation is different, don't know if those are wheel-able.

In any event, this is my 3rd 4x4, I have owned, my first auto-4x4. I love auto 4x4, no getting out of the truck, locking hubs, just turn a knob on the dash, it could not be any lazier!

I do not have a 4x4. I completely agree with the 4x4 only thing during peak hours now. Yesterday the sand was super thick. The only way a 4x2 truck had a chance was with a running start. Running starts and crowded beaches don't mix well. I unloaded at the curbside zone just fine. When the sand is packed down like usual 4x4 or not makes no difference.
