I'm good to go in any conditions, except when the south wind it blowing over 15 kts....that's just annoying. It can look ok from the launch, but when you hit the point, it sucks.

Heavy windswell can make the launch lame, but waders, waterproof jacket and stashed rods make that a non issue.

I'm like you, lots of surf time, so when i started kayaking it was a snap, BUT -- the only times I've been escared out there was

1) in the fog, no GPS and a lobster boat nearly plowing me over.

2) Stiff Santa Ana came up out of no where = me going backward.....i landed at the cove (illegally) after struggling against it and took a cab over to the shores and got my truck and then fetched my boat
