Where are you located would be a good start , bays are always a good place to start to become familiar with your kayak and equipment before you tackle surf launchs ,and a few dry runs launching through surf without your fishing gear to become fmiliar with timing sets and paddling through waves.If you surf you should have a good sense of waiting for the lulls between sets .PFD's are a must .Good luck and happy hunting
