Seat mounted rod holders are a poor option. The rods rest against your back and the seats are bulky. RAM has a suction cup mount - it's best suited to sit-insides are for electronics.

I travel for kayak fishing a fair amount, setting up shop on borrowed boats that aren't fully rigged. I use my modified Plano marine box. A cheap plastic 2 rod rack is bolted to the back, angled aft. A couple of tie downs completes the kit. The box fits in a suitcase add doesn't add much weight.
