FishAlert MLPA Smartphone App

Downloaded this smartphone app a few days ago, and after playing around with it, have to highly recommend it to all the california fishermen here.

FishAlert has an interactive map of every MLPA and Conservation area in the state, and places your location on the map, so you can see if you are in or out of the boundary.

Here I've zoomed over to La Jolla - my actual location is just off the map to the right.

The App also has a few cool and useful features like when you click on an area, you can get a description and whats allowed in that area.

Clicking on the Weather button gives you the current wind and weather conditions for your location.

Clicking on the Tides button gives you the days tide table, what the tide is at that moment, and which direction is going. A really cool "all in one" app. I haven't used the Fish Pix button yet, but there is a "Tap to Tweet" and a "Tap to FB" button to automatically upload the picture.

I did a search on the FishAlerts.com site, and it appears to only be an iPhone app at this time.

who does the app (if anyone) report or track the data to or for? the dfg one looked good at one time too. so far I think the ARCGIS is the best, but im on a droid.

So far as I can tell, this app does not track or report to anyone. Then again, I'm not usually associated with the Tin foil hat crowd so it may take a programmer to find out...

a quick trip on the google train shows that a company called "Great Outdoors mobile, INC" is the owner, I will drop them a email as to what their reasons for developing the app, aside from $, and if they drink stone.
it looks as though they are using the ARCGIS site and data.

the MLPA map is good for 2 things... 1 shows the MLPA areas, the other (more important) shows the underwater structure.
