Update on irvine lake....in the last 10 days the lake has risen 7 feet due to rain and all runoff from surrounding streams. And they are currently piping in water also!

Very cool! Congrats on your new PA. I'm sure you'll have a good time with it on the lake.

What to bring to a SEWER event???

Being the new guy at a SEWER event I thought to bring two batches of Joe Josts Pickled Eggs.

One for the camp on Friday night, and one to whoever catches the heaviest trout on Saturday.

A month in the frig and they will be cured just right.

I will just have to make sure I stand upwind of y'all...

Mike

Trout head soup?? I wonder if Feta goes with that...

I'm totally stoked, especially since I haven't eaten Joe Jost food since my college days at CSULB! THANKS MIKE!!

Never made Joe's specials before. What type of sausage, pickle, mustard, rye bread? Oh, the pressure. Maybe someone else can step up to the challenge.

Instead, since Yani is coming, I will make two more batches of pickled eggs.

Stopped by the lake today on the way home from Longfin. Was a little surprised at how low it is with all the rain we had.

I plan on a little practice run fishing here one day later this week to try out my new trout toys.

Here is a picture from the campsite nearest the water...

You can stitch together the following pictures for a crude panorama to see the lake level...

Insane! I remember when that was all filled with water and couldn't drive past where that bench is. That was only a year and a half ago.

Those look KILLER! Does anyone have a good recipe? I tried one Kay year and it was horrible, like I almost puked upon the first bite.

I'm in. First time there and a broke sonar. So I'll be poaching spots and even feeling guilty.

Well Lizard King (and Cbad)...I might as well give you some insight on these yahoos so you won't go shell shocked after the first hour and run home crying to your mamas like babies with wet diapers.
Be ready for some potty mouths (Jorge and Tony)...LOUD ARSE snoring (Jorge and Tony)...second guessing on anything you do, wear or bring (Jorge and Tony)...serious night time gas (Jorge, Tony and Roby)...great eats (Jorge, Tony, Roby)...be ready for a large hand reaching in your tent copping a feel (Jorge or Tony, I think)

Here are some don'ts for you to consider:
Don't cut corners on the food you bring...quality and quantity.
Don't forget to check your kayak for booby traps when you get home and offload (Roby)
Don't worry about the fishing gear you bring...you'll receive negative comments about it regardless (Jorge and Tony)

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.

Jim

I work with a bunch of guys with that exact description. Should feel right at home. More worried about catching fish then protecting my arse at night

Friday Pre-Fish

Fished Irvine Lake this past Friday. As I pulled out of the driveway in Lake Forest temp read 37 degrees. I thought that's not so bad.

As I drove through the canyon the temp started dropping. When I reached the lake it was 29 degrees.

Spent the day trying to figure out this trout thing. Looks like I am going to need more practice (a lot more).

Ended up with one small trout about 3 p.m. on a trolled jointed floating fire tiger Rapala.

Two firsts that day... learned how to tie the Rapala knot and first fish on that lure.

The earlier picture was a little misleading as not all ingredients had been added. Here is the final product...
