The gift that keeps on giving

Launched around 6 am this morning with my 15 y/o sister. Made a few big Spanish right off the kelp. Kept looking for those greenbacks and managed to snag one of them out in 80 ft of water.

Saw some bait popping to the north and decided to drag the greenback through it. BAM bait in the water 2 minutes and already hooked up. This one makes a few nasty headshakes and heads straight down. It must've found some structure bc it cut the line. It was a nice fish....

Throw a 9" Spanish on my sisters set up and send her on her way (her first time ever kayak fishing) with instructions of what to do if the clicker starts screaming. Told her to paddle towards the bait popping and not even 2 minutes later she's on! I quickly catch up and see her full on bendo on a nice fish! This fish also heads straight to the bottom and she can barely hang on. I take over for just a minute to bring the fish off the bottom and hand it back to her. 10 more minutes of grinding and pumping and we have color and I sink the gaff.

Bait still popping all around so I string her up another monster Spanish again and send her on her way to the popping bait. I bleed the fish and gut it. While I'm stringing it up she starts yelling at me again! This time something hit it hard... She can't get it out of the rod holder (the first fish worked her pretty good)! I jam over there and start putting the hurt on this one. She insists I bring this one in. Quick 5 min battle and we have another one on the yak! Bleed and gut right away then we started to head in.

All in all it was a killer day and I couldn't be happier with how it went! My sister kicked some ass!

Aloha

That's awesome! That must have given her a bit of a sleigh ride in what looks like on the smaller size of a kayak. Whatta champ!

Congrats!
Looks like you have twins there 👍🏼
I do believe you have made a new kayak fisher woman for life and created a memory of a lifetime and a story she will be telling at family gatherings for years.

Thanks for all the kind words fellas! We made some poke with her fish last night! Only thing better than watching her crank that puppy in was seeing her take the first bite of poke! This recipe has been in our family for years!

She is so set up for the rest of her life! A confident, self sufficient young lady at 15! Dang, time to get her her own yack and her own sticks.

Watch out young men, she gonna show you how to do it!

That is so cool.

I had to beg and plead with my uncle to share our grandpas recipe with me! It is very simple and delicious! With yellowtail I like to add avocado. It makes the texture very creamy!

My sister lives and goes to school in hawaii. I wish she was out here. That would mean I would have to buy another hobie though :/
