great conditions all week. one of my favorite trips to Baja yet. great people and great adventures.

Oh, and Bob, guess what i saw finally.......

BIG BIG BIG

Fished three solid days. Rancho grande was out of gas for a couple of them, it had me sweating a little bit, but sometimes a smooth trip stays smooth, and gas was ready by the time we left.

one day fish haul, not bad. all fish shot in less than 20 feet of water. the spotted rose snapper was under a ledge 6 feet deep. many cabrilla were sleeping on top of boulders 2 feet deep getting some sun.

Not a bad view....Looking north from Casa de Mako.

and of course, the best part about baja. The Dos xx Ballenon!

More sunset porn

Saludos! And a huge thanks as usual to our host with the most.

When the cabrilla are sitting like that in shallow water, the poppers work great. Nothing in the world gets your heart racing like a 10 plus pound cabrilla EXPLODING on your plug.

Was that a SVEN size WSB??? or bigger???

Glad your last day was as good as the first. I never saw the wind above 10mph and usually below 5. Nice weather window.

the seabass was sven plus ten.....

i thought it was a shark. we made eye contact and i was almost hypnotized. by the time i could even process what i saw he was gone. i swam all the way back in, grabbed a bigger gun, got back out and the pangas rolled in VERY close, seemed to have scared EVERYTHING away.

Pierre says he got his brain shook while i was gone...... sounded thick.....

Oh and i left behind a 9" flex bubba blade that might have been yours

and the Mexican book of slang for anyone who wants blend in......

Thanks again MakoBob

JEFF, it is the time of year for the cabrilla to show up in the shallows, usually hens pre spawn. WSB too, Sven plus ten for those of you who do not know would be WSB in the 50's and 60's. Tight Lines.

BTW one diver on this trip took a 75 pound Gulf Grouper. He shot it in about 25 feet of water.

Just back from another trip to paradise.
Weather, day one and two no WIND. ZERO. Day three nice morning, afternoon windy to 15 plus. Day four WINDY 10-20 ALL day. Days 5,6, and 7 again NO WIND!!!!!!! Temp 75-80 all week, nights lows of 45-60. GREAT for camp fires. Bring a jacket AND fire wood...................
Krocks and slow trolled plastics got the job done. Plastics from 4-12 inches worked well, slow trolled within 50 feet of the rocks. Bass, a few triggers, sierra were small, cabrilla over 15 pounds and orange mouth Corvina over 10 pounds were right on the beach. Yes one day YT were caught to 20 pounds. GONZAGA BAY was the hot area with double hook ups on the cabrilla, and 3-4 pound corvina in the back side bay behind Alphonsinas. Tight Lines.

Spring is almost gone. Temps now in the 80's, fishing is getting hotter. Enjoy theCortez before it gets too hot. Lots of Sierra, YT mostly rats but some to 20 are around, cabrilla and gulf grooper plus spotties. Still seeing some schools of Rooster Fish. Tight Lines Amigos.

I left a Bending Branch Angler Ace paddle at Bob's place and it has gone missing. I'm thinking someone took it by mistake. Please PM if you happen to of taken the paddle. I can meet somewhere and pick it up.

Next Gonzaga trip will be leaving the 14th or 15th of July ANYONE can come down. I plan on leaving on 14 July from Johnny's Shell station in El Cajon at 4 am and arriving at our place around 11 am leaving you all afternoon to fish. I found water temps this last trip to be 85 degrees, air temps in the mid 90's daytime and 80-85 at might. It is hot there. WE sleep outside this time of year. Last week you did not need a sheet to cover yourself at night.
This is a FULL MOON trip. Crocks caught fish from the beach, triggers, bass, cabrilla and Corvina. The fly guys did well both from their yaks and from the beach. No YT last week, but a few sierra and the usuals. Saw Roosters over 40 pounds, caught a couple smaller ones, about 2 pounds. Looks like winds less than 10 mph first couple of days????? Will update wind speeds as trip gets closer. Tight Lines. If interested please post here.

2017? you ask? 1st trip starts 28 Dec for New Years at Gonzaga. Trip could be blown out as far as fishing goes.
2nd trip June to San Quintin for Halibut Tourney, dates to be determined soon, it will just be a Saturday Tournament, I will go from there to Punta Baja or Gonzaga depending on weather.
3rd trip will be two weeks in October for October on the FLY, these two trips are already 1/2 full.
There will be other trips if someone asks for a specific trip with dates, if not I will be posting MY Gonzaga trips for the spring before Christmas. I will try to give you time to plan, BUT if you give me dates that always works best. Tight Lines, and Happy Holidays.

Thanks.

Since I made my reservation for Canada trip--July 31-August 17, it is unlikely that I make the October trip Ken Jones already said that he won't be going.

I would like to try my Sentri Pass when I get it. It would also be good if it was not during the very hot months.

I would like to get more info about mag bay trip. I am thinking about taking my boat down....who is organizing this trip/who should I talk to? If I go I can take 1 other guy!
