Check out something in 13ft range - you will be comfortable, it will track better than a shorter kayak in the big water and its still a manageable size on land to load/unload etc.

Look at the Ride, Thresher, and Radar series. I've had three Ride's (2 135's and a 115) and I've loved each one of 'em... |

Best to head down to OEX and try out a few models to see what works for you.
Keep in mind storage, transport and desired use. But here are some options that come to mind for non-hobie kayaks: Tarpon 130/140 Thresher 140 Kraken 13.5 Trident 13 Viking Profish Last edited by summers in kuwait; 07-11-2017 at 06:37 AM. |

Love my Jackson Kraken 13.5. These are fantastic kayaks, and specifically designed to handle going in and out of the surf. Comfortable ride, too.

I ride the Malibu Stealth 12. Built in bait tank, fast and maneuverable. Not real heavy and pretty stable.

Best part about some of the paddle yaks mentioned is the large center hatch to put gear and fish in. So I'd look for one with that.

2017 Trident 15
Great kayak. Went with 15 becuase of weight capacity. If you have a lot of gear and bait tank, 15 might be way to go . It is a beast on land . 93 lb . I used to think my outback was heavy . The trident 13 is not that much lighter but the weight capacity is a lot lower. On the water the trident can move. Handles surf great. Been through 3ft surf, 4-6 ft , even got caught out in 6-8 ft with 10 ft mixed in . Today I took it out at Malibu 4-6 ft. It's great to be able to stash rods and gear with ease. Since I got it in October I have not used my outback. . For a paddle kayak this platform is hard to beat. I also would recommend rudder.

Want some insane top speed? Forget polyethylene plastic yaks. Carbon fiber is the way to go.
http://stealthkayaks.co.za/kayak-ran.../profisha-475/ Not sure how heavy you are, but you can get 8-9kts top speed with only steady effort.

Jackson Kayak Kraken 15.5. Great seating, plenty of storage, and all around an awesome rig for the money. Not to mention 8 rod holders if you love to take out a lot of rods. But as I said, the star of the Kraken is the seat. Nowhere will you find a seat as nice as the Elite Seat 3.0

Look on the classified section on here...there is a Ocean Kayak Prowler 13 for sale and the price is right! (socalbeachbum) This is a FANTASTIC kayak to paddle & fish from. FWIW- if I could only have ONE kayak the P13 would be my first choice. Good luck. $.02 |

Any secondary stability to it? If I ever go back to paddling I'll be getting a 475 or 525.

Secondary stability is as good as any touring yak. Love the yak.
