Curious Sheep head feature

I caught a 5.8 lb sheep head the other day and while cleaning it, discovered a curious feature not noticed before. In the throat is a set of molars! I guess they are for crushing crustaceans and such. The three sided one is on bottom. Most of the structures seem to be bones but the mating surfaces are very hard like teeth.

What are the coordinates exactly where you caught this monster sheepshead? I need to catch one also to verify what you saw is not unusual. :-D

To catch sheepshead a porgy, you need to travel to Atlantic Ocean.
However, if you want to catch its distant relative sheephead (no S), then Southern California or Baja is the place.

Ghost shrimp or any crustacean are good bait. Kelp forest is also a good place to look for them.

Good luck.

Coordinates

I caught that sheep head right by the man overboard symbol on my fish finder.
I was reading that they can get over 30 lbs. I’d like to at least get one over 10.

They do get big.

This sheephead was caught in Baja across from the Cedros island.

When those beasts get over 10lbs they really pull. It'll be a great catch then.
