Orcas-La Jolla

I just saw this and heard some chatter yesterday....hopefully they are in town to thin out the seal population. I must admit that I would need to change my shorts if Shamu swam up to my kayak.

Nice footage of whales, report says they were hunting dolphins, would be nice if they went for the seals instead.

La Jolla, Orcas and Great Whites....its just a matter of time.

I knew ever since the seal population exploded due to government regulation, we would see the apex predators of the ocean, here in LJ more regularly. I like you all hope the Orcas and Great Whites thin the seal population, its long over due, but I worry a few of us may go in the process.

Are you saying that maybe you are not the "Apex Predator", or maybe you share the distinction with the animals that kill for a living? Just friendly ribbing.

Hey I'm not the one who needs to be "protected" by the Marine Mammals Act and California Department of Fish and Game. Take away that and they are just another flavor in my freezer.

we were on an overnight private charter aboard the liberty and went to check them out. they got within 5' of the boat which was cool.

on a side note. some guy and his little dog were in a 18' parker staring at the whales. the bigger orcas surfaced VERY close to him and looked like they were sizing him up to see if they can grab a quick snack. the guy freaked out and smashed his controls into WOT and jammed out real fast. they chased him for a good few minutes.
