Cuyamaca is supposed to get stocked with large trout second week of this month and has tent, RV/w hook ups or not (no sewer) and has cabins and condo for rent too. Check out their web site cause there is also Duck hunting on Wednesdays and Sundays.

There a lots of hiking trails in the area and if you are more hard core, the Pacific Crest Trail goes by near the area.

I grew up going to Cuyamaca. Pinzanita Campground is nearby. Might be too "RV" for your tastes but is an option.

If you got Cuyamaca for camping, be aware of drunken Marines that bring "ladies of the evenings" there.

They get so drunk, that even go to ladies bathroom.

I was there many years ago, and had not such a good trip.

I myself am going for ice fishing for trout in the winter. First Wyoming, then Colorado.

However, it is not for everyone. Lots of specialized gear is required for comfortable and safe trip.

You might have seen some of my reports.

Crowley Lake

I want to say Crowley opens up in early January. They have 3 small cabins among the campsites that were pretty cheap. I want to say 4 nights around fathers day was only a bout $700.

I have always had luck at Crowley. Aligator Point and the Green Banks were very productive on our last trip.
