Sea Lion’s Revenge

Saw the craziest thing this morning fishing out of King Harbor. A sea lion was thrashing about in 100 feet of water so I decided to paddle closer to check it out. The sea lion was tossing and throwing a live ‘wounded’ 4 foot long thresher shark up in the air over his head and then diving down to grab it again. This went on for 10 minutes or so and then he move on dragging the shark with him. Anyone see or hear of this?

I saw this last weekend at La Jolla with a sea lion throwing about 30lb yellowtail!!! Right of the pier.

I had a sea lion steal a 25-30 lb blue fin off a jig and threw the thing around at the surface until it finally tore chunks off.

I think the sea lion teeth are meant for holding fish, not cutting so much. So they use that flinging method to break up prey that is larger than they can swallow whole.

I seen this in La Jolla. I never would have believed it if I didn’t see with my own eyes. I think the sea lions eat the liver of the young sharks. Totally nuts to witness.
