Bag limit question

Can someone shine a light here.

Is Scorpionfish a rockfish?

All Other Federal Groundfish: 10 fish of each species, 20 fish total in combination per Section 27.60

So it's legal to take :

10 Rockfish (except Canary Rockfish, Cowcod, Bronzespotted Rockfish and Yelloweye Rockfish)

5 white fish (no size limit)

5 scorpionfish ( minimum 10")

I've been checked by DFG twice again lately, stranglely, he only checked my catch, but never bother to check my fishing license.

yes it is but it has its own bag limit. Where are you fishing? I believe the bag limit is different for each individual region

Follow the Southern Management regulations in the DFG site. I could be wrong but I thing the rockfish daily bag limit is 10 in combination and not 20.

No, sculpin is not a rockfish, but a ground fish. So yes you're ok keeping the fish listed above. As long as you don't keep more than 20 fish total, you're ok. So fish slot sizes change as well if you take multiple species. Only exception to the rule is sand dabs. No limit, nor slot limit. They do not count towards your 20 fish daily limit. Example: You could take 9 rockfish, 5 sculpin, 4 calico, a YT, and a WSB if you wanted.

I hoped that answered your "?"

I could never make sense of it.

Can I swap a rockfish for a wsb?
