This is supposed to be the best in HUMAN history on 12th of August. Plan on being in an area without too much light polution. I will be in Baja for this one. Tight Lines amigos.

Good, with the new boat? The light show runs for a couple weeks but the 12th should be the best night. Tight Lines.

Nah I'll leave the new rig in her slip. Just a fun run.

From what I was reading right before sunrise is supposed to be the best. Some say up to 200 per hour, crazy.

Thanks for sharing Bob. Might try and get up to Mt. Laguna and see how this looks with the view of Borrego below.

When is the last time you guys have been awake before sunrise at casa Mako? Certainly not while I was there. I have been taking in this Perceids meteor shower whenever possible for close to 50 years. It always peaks on the 12th 0r 13th of August and while I think it is quite spectacular in it's own right, it varies very little from year to year. I can't count the number of times that it was reported that "This year will be the best ever" Now this blurb went through FB that 2017 will be the best year in human history. Tried to track down the source of that claim and and it is pretty dubious. There is one Russian Astronomer that feels this will be a good year but many disagree with him. Some better sources would be sites like NASA, or EarthSky.org or even National Geographic. Believe me I will be out in the desert with my quad and zero gravity chair to watch it probably a couple nights but my expectations are not quite as high as the guy that thinks it will be the best in human history.

may take the family out toward Joshua Tree to witness it, with an obligatory stop at http://www.maracas-restaurant.com/ in Palm Springs for dinner Coinciding with the full moon may make it a little less spectacular.

I remember taking my dad out to Joshua Tree to see it 10-15 years ago. While it was nice to watch - it never got less than 100 degrees all night long. It was pretty miserable laying there sweating all night. Bring plenty of water - like several 5 gallon containers!

`Lots of water yes! Now that the stairs are in for the roof I will sit up there in my 0 gravity chair and enjoy.

Leave early morning 2-2:30 am, and return on the 18th. You would lose a weekend. Call me.
