What hours do the cabs operate in Avalon? How early could you catch a cab if you wanted to start fishing early on a Sunday? And how early could you get your boat out of the storage on a Sunday?

It sounds like a cool idea. I have wanted to camp/kayak fish catalina for a while now. I think it might be better if you could store the kayak at the Isthmus and fish there for yt and wsb (eagle reef, bird rock, cat harbor). It would be a LONG paddle from Avalon to the squid grounds by the Vs and palisides on the backside.

That's a good idea. You could trailer the kayak behind the bike and would have more flexibility around when you launch and land.

Or, you could just buy a boat and throw the kayak's on the bow....Get two or three buds to kick in for gas and you are good to go. You could even get a 262 Skipjack and we could all spend the night on it as well! Of course I get to spoon with Premo! Thats the ticket...Come Kent, you can do it!

We were planning a mid june trout trip........but it may just turn into a YT Catalina trip.

Gotta do some planning and kissing butt with the wife.

I don't know about the Catapalooza thing, seems like its an invitation event only for realllllly good fishermen.

I would suggest that Wahoo buy the boat but he would probably sell it a week later...

didn't know we have MacGyver on BWE.
well sadly the road between Avalon and boat yard is closed for anybody just cars(falling rocks)should be reopen later this summer.there is another road (wriglies rd),but longer with elevations.
cab charges are 8 bucks each way(second person is for free, every additional person 1 buck)so with group of 2 and more its doable on budget.

it would be nice, but the annual pass is only for NPH to Avalon.

You could always lock the kayak in Two Harbors and then catch the bus from Avalon to Two Harbors where there is a great campsite and direct access to good fishing grounds. Not sure if there is an annual bus pass but I'm sure you can work something out, small community of friendly people.

Thanks Joe been waiting for your respond since you did lot of camping in cat.was thinking why not to paddle all the way to two harbors fish along and spend night or more there and then paddle back to avalon and fish along,or even if you carry tent and sleeping bag you can stay overnight on any primitive camp along the catalina.I think there is a lot of choices ,question is ,is there enough people to do such things?

Certainly you can paddle from Avalon to beach camping. Willow Cove and Long Pt. Beach would be the closest primitive camp spots and are doable in a days paddle. Then working your way to 2 harbors you have Italian Gardens, Goat Harber, Gibraltar Cabrillo, Lava Wall, Paradise, Rippers in order.

You may want to contact Descanso Beach Ocean Sports to see how much they would charge to allow you to lock up your kayak on their rental property. Then you would just get in and go after walking there from the boat.

You could also ask Wet Spot Rentals

Storing at these locations you don't have to worry about cabs or trailers.
