WCW 2007 Online Registration

West Coast Whoppers 2007 Rules & Registration

Welcome to West Coast Whoppers, the year long, points based big fish contest for SoCal kayak anglers.

The contest begins May 19th, 2007 with the WCW Kickoff Tournament at La Jolla Shores and ends May 18, 2008. Anglers may enter the contest at any time during the year, but it is advisable to register early to maximize your points.

Registration will be $50 per angler, $40 of which will go into the prize payout. $10 of each entry will provide for the Kickoff Tournament, a WCW t-shirt for each entrant, and a donation to The Hubbs white seabass project. The payout will be as follows: 50% will go to the winning angler at the end of the year. The second place angler will receive 30% and the third place angler will receive 20%.

New for 2007, OEX will be sponsoring the contest, providing prizes and gift certificates for a monthly raffle to be drawn randomly among all contestants. The top twenty finishers at the end of the year will be invited to the WCW Invitational Tournament at La Jolla Shores in June 2008.

Rules:

1. The contest is based on the following points system: Yellowtail, white seabass, and halibut will each count for ONE point per pound. One bonus point will be added to each submitted fish that is caught on an artificial lure. Fish must be at least TEN pounds to be eligible for submission. Fish caught in the WCW Kickoff tournament will be eligible for a five point bonus.

2. Registered anglers will be allowed TWO submissions for points each month, of any eligible species, except in the case of a slam (see below). For example, an angler may submit two of the same species or two different species each month

THE SLAM: If an angler catches a yellowtail, a white seabass, and a halibut in the same month, all three fish may be submitted for points. There is no limit to the number of months in which an angler can submit a slam. Slam fish must also conform to the TEN pound minimum.

The fish submitted each month must be caught during that month. Submissions will be due by midnight on the seventh day of the following month. LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

There will be thirteen submission periods for WCW 2007: May 19 – May 31, 2007 will be the first submission period. May 1 – May 18, 2008 will be the last submission period. All other submission periods will be monthly.

3. Each angler’s submission must be accompanied by two photos of the catch: One photo of the angler holding the fish (preferably on the kayak), and one photo of the fish on a measuring tape showing its total length in inches. Fish must also be weighed on an accurate scale. Reported fish weight will be compared to length to verify accuracy.

4. Submissions will be made on the West Coast Whoppers 2007 message board for all contestants to see. Scoring will be updated monthly and will be viewable by all competitors.

5. All fish must be hooked, fought, and landed from a kayak, to be eligible for submission. Fish caught in Mexican waters (including the Sea of Cortez) or on mothership trips will be allowed, however kayaks may not be attached in any way to another vessel when the fish is hooked. THE USE OF MOTORIZED KAYAKS IS NOT ALLOWED.

6. Fish caught prior to an angler’s registration will not be eligible for points.

Big Water’s Edge encourages the responsible management of our fisheries. The rules of this contest allow for catch and release fishing. Please do not keep more than you can eat. For current size and bag limits please visit The California DFG website: http://www.dfg.ca.gov/

Jackpots

There will be four optional jackpots this year which are separate from the WCW entry fee. All jackpot contestants must be entered in WCW 2007. There are individual sponsors for each jackpot which will award a prize pack (each valued over $350) to first place, in addition to the jackpot cash payout provided by the entry fees. Cash payout will be awarded for the top 3 biggest fish in each category. Payout is as follows:

1st place- 50% plus sponsor prize pack (each valued over $350)
2nd place- 30%
3rd place- 20%

The cost of entry is $20 per category. A small Paypal fee will be subtracted from each entry, the remainder of which will go into the jackpot payout.

The four Jackpot categories are:

1. Heaviest Yellowtail – Sponsored by Ballast Point Brewing Company- 10 cases of Yellowtail Pale Ale! ($350 value)

2. Heaviest Halibut - Sponsored by Pelagic – Jacket, Aquatek Shirt, Hat, Shirt, Shorts, Sandals ($350 value)

3. Heaviest White Seabass – Sponsored by Berkley/Pure Fishing – Tackle Package ($500 value)

4. Heaviest Slam (largest total weight of all three species) - Sponsored by Malibu Kayaks – Winner of heaviest slam will receive a new Malibu Kayak of their choice! ($1100 value)

Please Note: Although the same WCW submission requirements (tape shot & weight) apply for jackpot submitted fish, every effort should be made to get as accurate a weight as possible. We encourage jackpot competitors to have their submissions weighed at OEX Rosecrans store or another certified weigh station. If a certified weight can not be obtained, please submit either a photo of the fish on the scale with the weight legibly displayed, or have another WCW competitor witness the weight of your fish. Extra effort should be made in accurately reporting the weight of any jackpot submitted fish, as these submissions will be under extra scrutiny by WCW officials. Jackpot submissions must be caught on or between May 19, 2007 and May 18, 2008, and are subject to WCW 2007 submission eligibility requirements.
