2nd half of Lobster season....

This is my first season hunting bugs. I've only hooped a few spots around Dana Point (mostly around the Jetty between 20-30 ft of water.)

I was curious to know how hooping differs in Jan-March vs. Sept - Dec (maybe it's the same). Outside of it being colder, does lobster behavior change?

Thanks for insight, tips & opinions.

Don't know much about hooping this time of year but we need to meet up and go out again.

My cousin and I went hooping a couple of weeks ago. Caught 3, but only 1 legal. Always interested in going with others especially when burning the midnight oil.

The crawl slows down but they are still out there. There are also less people out there hooping so you still have a chance.

Anyone interested in going hooping in Long Beach harbor?
It's about a 3 mile paddle from the launch ramp to where i've got gps coord's...
I do have a trolling motor to help out though... Always willing to help/tow

winter hoopin' can be slower w/ bigger swells, gusty winds, and a lot colder. But if you time it right w/ dark moon & murky waters it can be worth it. No crowds, great sunsets, starlit sky (w/ shooting stars), cold beer and cigar make for an enjoyable trip. PS; I got over 50 shorts and 5 legals last week.

That's really far to go especially at night....Long beach would be killer if we could just go faster...

With the trolling motor it should only take 30-45 mins to motor out there...

44lb thrust motor... group 48 battery, not going to run that thing down in 1 night...

Did you take your kayak or another boat? If you don't mind me asking?
