Long Beach Oil Islands

First time fishing the oil islands this Friday.
What do you suggest I use as bait or lure?
Thanks

Where are you launching from?
If Cherry beach you can hit the bait barge. Plastics work good for the bass 3-4 inch swim bait on a weedless 3/8 - 1/2 oz leadhead smothered unibutter.
watch out for the transport boats that go to and from the islands.

Any colors that work better than others?

Haven't had much luck with spinnerbaits myself, but 3" and 4" Flurrys work for me. I like Redfish, Sea Food, and Bait Fish. I also like T-rigged Zoom Flukes, Landwhale likes those even more.

South end of the southern breakwall you can see it on google earth. There is another set on the north end near angles gate and one in cabrillo harbor.

If you launch from Cherry Beach it is about 3 miles to Nachos Bait at the south end of the wall. If you launch from 72nd street it looks like it is just under 2 miles ( i have never tried this). If you are not in shape, and i am not, thats a long ways.
