Newport, 4/23/17

Went out for rockfish today. I got plenty of nibbles but no takers. My sidekick managed to scratch up three nice sized ones in 170-190 ft. Gulp swimming mullets in chartreuse out-fished squid strips today.

Water was a little over 65 degrees, and the swells weren't too bad earlier in the morning. It was a little sketchy coming in (around 11:30). Slight washing machine like conditions outside the harbor made it even more fun trying to navigate the incoming/outgoing traffic.

Love how you and Nathan go out all the time! Awesome. I still need to join you one of these weekends for rockfish!

We try to get out there as much as we can. Let me know next time you come out to Newport. We've been making a conscientious effort to explore other fisheries (Dana Point, Mission Bay, SD Bay, etc).

Nice job. I never thought of using Swim Mullets for rockcod; I use mine for the harbors. Thanks for the idea.

Thanks. Just be sure to bring a bunch. Tails kept getting nibbled off!
