Channel Island harbor area intel

I am planning to fish with my son approx the second week of Sept near Channel islands Harbor(he is a stationed in the navy at port Hueneme... )

Any basic intel is appreciated as I have never been there... Hazards, etc.

Our plan is, in good weather to fish in the inshore/ocean/kelp?... or if the conditions are rougher, we will stick more to the bay...
We will probably fish early day, but possibly late day into the evening.

Thanks!
