Battle of the Bays Results...SM BAY

Maybe next year we'll just have his name engraved on the plaque when I have them made...LOL......but more on that later...

What a great bunch of Kayakers...Thank you all for particpating and supporting CCA CAL with another fun kayak tourney...you all make this possible...!
Thank you ANDY and WANDA ALLEN and OEX and HOBIE for being our title sponsors and host for the King Harbor version of the Battle of the Bays
Thanks CCA CAL Volunteer Chuck Katz for the great photos...

"Who left their phookin' kayaks in the middle of the ramp"...LOL...

The shotgun launch helps to even out the field and the race out to the fishing areas becomes a part of the event...look at em go...

Taking your photo to submit to the iAngler app is almost as important as catching the fish...we had two guys that would have been in the top three if they had taken and submitted complete photos of their fish...! The judges had to disqualify their big fish...
2nd and 3rd places were separated by only 1/4"...thats the extra length you're get by pinching the tail. $125 vs $250...you do the math LOL
The Chang Gang at work...!

The judges looking at your submissions in the beautiful upstairs bar at the King Harbor Yacht Club

Daniel Chavez still had his "game face" on durning the weighing of his winning 2.1lbs. "rockfish caught on an AHI rig" He won a $100 jig selection from AHI USA.
with that rockfish.

Daniel changed that "game face" into a happy smile when he received his check for $680 for that same 2.1lbs rockfish which won the "Biggest Fish" cash side pot.
That's a great payday for a Rockfish...

I think it's his co-pilot Coco that makes him so Lucky...
Tony Park won the heaviest bag of rockfish again this year. with a bag of 4.5lbs. of Redondo Canyon beauties. He won a Ling Cod Carving from "Bob the Bone Carver". Bob made this beautiful art work from a piece of Red Abalone shell.

And... once again Mr. Tony Park has retained the title of King of Redondo...He had a bag of 3 Sandbass with a length of 52.25". He won a $500 gift card to Turners Outdoorsman.

Tony is now in the lead for the Angler of the year and the Hobie Pro Angler 12 that's waiting at the end of the trail for the angler with the longest bag of bass for the four tournaments. All of the guys that finished in the top ten did their homework and pre fished and submitted practice photos over the last month...Tony and Al Chavez (2nd place with 51") probably put the most time into specifically fishing for this event and looking for areas with fish leading up to the tourney...He deserved this win knowing that only a few areas might bite...having a few extra areas to look at on his way back to the harbor worked great...Making a good tourney plan and sticking to it seems to work best!

For 2nd place Al Chavez won a $250 gift card for Okuma Products.

Third place was Derwin Chang with a bag length of 50.75" only 1/4" from 2nd place. Derwin has driven up fro San Diego to pre-fish this event and it shows with his consistent top 3 finishes. Derwin won a $125 gift card from
Promar/AHI.

4th was Alan Toji with his bag of 49.75" of bass...Alan took home a $75 gift card for Hookup Bait products. Alan caught his bass during the tourney on some Hookup Baits, so he should be pretty happy with this award.

Derwin and Al both had bass that were 19" long but Al checked in a few minutes earlier so he won the tie for the One Cool Tuna Jig for the longest bass.

The Bling Bogey Fish was a 10.5" Calico bass and we had a tie for that winner with Paul Giacalone and Patrick Donahue both catching an 11.5" calico that was closest to the Blind Bogey size and species. we tossed a coin and Patrick won a Roddy graphite Reaper rod.

Dale Shaw was one of 5 entered in the Mity Might contest and he won a Roddy Reaper rod with a ............10.25" Mack...!
That's his second Reaper rod...he also won one in Mission Bay...I'll bet that Mack really worked him on that Mity Might rod...LOL

CONGRADULATIONS TO ALL THE WINNERS IN THE TOURNEY...!

Lunch was delicious...Big Eye Tuna (donated by Primetime Seafood) marinaded Hawaiian style on the grill with mack salad and fried rice and some Poke and Spicy Tuna and ice cold beers...The King Harbor Yacht Club is so beautiful and the view from the upstairs bar and dining area is outrageous...!

Next up is the Channel Islands Battle of the Bays for our northern friends.
We'll be at the Vintage Marina in Oxnard on the north side of the harbor near Captain Hooks landing and Channel Islands Kayak Center.
CIKC will be our Hobie host for this event in and around Oxnard harbor.
Register at www.battleofthebays.com and be one of the first twenty to pay and get in a drawing for an ABYSS or AXIS PHENIX rod. We have 10 signed up as of today.

Thank you to all those that worked so hard to put this event on. And a big thank you to the sponsors and those that donated raffle prizes. Winning a Reliable kayak kill bag and a Calstar did helped lessen the sting of a tough day fishing

Thanks to Jim and Wayne the volunteers and of course the CCA for putting on these events.

Fished against pros, teams, fierce competaters, and even a legit violent street gang...

Let’s just call it really dumb luck.
I’m not even a bass guy...

rockfish winner...

"That rockfish was really the TOP prize! Who would have thought?!"

...Anyone that was at the Mission Bay event...
The prize money at Dana Landing was won with a 1.5lbs rockfish.

Maybe you guys just might want to pay attention to the details...?! LOL !

Channel Islands Harbor also has a rockfish division and another carving from Bob the Bone Carver as the prize...you might as well keep those big rockfish, Lings, or Sculpin and you just might win some big bucks...
