Mack

King Mackerel is one of the most spectacular fish to be taken off a kayak. They are not as good eating or prestigious as a Wahoo, but their method of attack is very similar.

Racing in at full speed to cut the propellor off the bait, they are frequently taken on a back stinger hook. If the stinger misses, they are often hooked when they swim back to eat the second half of the bait. I have had instances when they hit so hard, that they bit through the 40lb wire stinger, but then got hooked on the return bite. They will sometimes jump 4-40ft out of the water to attack a bait. The first run is a screamer, and that is where the big ones get the name smokers. They also make a good smoked fish spread.

SCREAMER

As in the sound that must have come from the drag on your reel! It must be real nice to have so many large species to target. Tight Lines!
