Lowrance Elite 4 hdi transducer questions

I cannot seem to find any good sites that talk about the difference between the two different types of transducers.

83/200 455/800 = 299.99
50/200 455/800 = 399.99

I have found sites that say the 83/200 is more for lake fishing and 50/200 is more for saltwater fishing. Any suggestions or feed back will be greatly appreciated.
Also, are the Gold Navionics worth the extra money?

50 kHz 83 kHz

50 kHz I believe is a lower frequency and has the capability of penetrating deeper , say more than a 1000 ' . The cone on the 83 kHz is wider , which should give you more coverage in the same depth . I think for what we are doing , both are more than capable . Generally we are fishing less than 200 ' . I have been watching this video from doctor. Sonar , and he said that the 200 frequencies on the two transducers are different some how , but did not get into specifics . 200 kHz will generally give better detail in water depths of about 100' .
