New to the yak

Hello everyone,
Im just gettin into yak fishing. I've made up my mind on getting an inflatable sea eagle 370. Reason being im 15 yo, living w my parents and they only let me get an inflatable for space and convenience. I fished from shore in the past, and its frustrating not being able to get into good spots!! Im just learning about launching from beaches. I live in Thousand Oaks, so i'll be fishing @ paradise cove/malibu beach if i ever get out there on my yak. I am just learning how to read the surf reports. I have a question, Does the longer the swell period (ex. 16 sec) mean smaller surf, or bigger surf? Does the longer the swell period make it easier to launch from the surf or harder?
