Killer whales drag sea lion under boat in Dana Point

Video from Tuesday's whale watching tour.

A pod of 7 transient killer whales attacked and killed a California seal lion. Whale Watchers on board Capt. Dave's Dolphin and Whale Safari were amazed by this rare display. Some passengers were able to witness the event underwater from the vessel's two underwater viewing pods.

Yups......people think orcas are like the tamed show animals at sea world but they can be dead wrong. Suckers are ruthless and smart! Hope those whale watching boats are smart enough to keep a good distance. Orcas in the wild are known to flip icebergs to get their prey into the water.

Apex predator

I thought using sea lions to chum-up some K-whales was not legal in this state, however it is good to see the apex predator take it's place and do it's job. Now it needs to improve productivity and through-put!

Orcas look alot less cute when thier tearing some other cute creature apart. I've seen orcas once off So Cal and they were chasing down a grey whale down off Point Loma. Thats serius predation. Mike

They should lean a little further over the rail to get a better pic..

Killer Whales - We need more Killin'.

Time for nature to clean up our back yard. Maybe they will practice that beaching maneuver at The Children's Pool.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

I can already see Seal Lady running to the waters edge trying to scare the Orca whales away.

I hope they call all of their relatives in for a huge family reunion at La Jolla, serving a buffet of all you can eat sea lion, for a week or two.
Aaron
P.S. Of course, I hope they realize, that my kayak and I, are not a seal lion, and no threat to their young, either. Julie and I've had large porpoises swim alongside our kayaks, even they could easily flip you if they wanted to.

Oh Billy, you are always saying what the rest of us are thinking. Is there an Orca whisperer among us?
