Steve Moyer Memorial Tournament

Jim and I have been getting a lot of questions about the tournament. We have unfortunately decided not to do it this year.

It sadings us but we feel it is the right call at this time. We appreciate everyone who supported, donated and helped us through 9 successful years. There is no way we can ever thank you all enough.

Tight Lines and Enjoy some Pictures of the Past.

Big thanks for taking the sport to the next level! The tourney was placed into good hands like yourselves and made the sport huge. We can only hope that you and Jim hear enough guys bitch and moan about not having the kayak tourney to fish in La Jolla.

You guys did an excellent job and we will all miss it for the time being! (May it only be a short time)

A very sad loss for the SoCal kayak community, even for just one year. You guys certainly deserve the break though, thanks for all your years of effort.

Last year there was a major step down in attendance from previous years, which is really sad. I remember when I first go into Kayak fishing there was I think over 100 people signed up to fish and last year I'm not sure it got even close to that. Kind of a slap in the face of all those who helped to get the event going. Hopefully it comes back for next year and the numbers go back up in attendance.

I'm pretty new to kayak fishing but I kick my own butt for not signing up for the tournament last time. Watching you guys on TV was what got me all fired up to get a yak. If you resume in the future I will not hesitate!

Wow. I'd be happy to not fish it and work behind the scenes to make it happen...........not giving up on this.

I'll work that day if that's the problem also. Maybe some of the OG breakfast crew will pitch in this go around. 9 is not a good number....gotta do at least an even 10.

EDIT: On another note, spoke with DefJack....he said he would volunteer to MC the event!

So maybe this year, we change it to an anti mpla, where is the scientific evidence, awareness contest.

where the weigh in is at seal beach, extra points for bleeding your fish at the weigh in!

or better the holy mackeral fish contest!!!

I think we can get enough help to make it happen at least one last year

Yeah, 9 is not a good number. Got to make it to at least the 10th year.
I can work the day of as well. There are several here who are willing to lend a hand.
With all those willing to help, it can happen.

Matt and Jim,
Tis a sad day, but thanks for 9 years of producing great and wonderful memories! I know the behind the scenes work, networking for prizes, haggeling sponsers, food prep for unknown numbers, setting and lining it all up takes a lot of hard work, and I for one will miss the festivities on SMMT game day! You have done wonders of bringing awareness to the awful disease of Cancer and it's effects on all of us, as well as help numerous others in their fights with it as well, so I think I speak for everyone here in saying:
Thank You for all you and both of your families have done to get us 9 years of SMMT!

A Sad day indeed... The last 3 years have been brutal for me and others, in the construction working class, I always wanted to attend this special event, but the economy, funding and lack of work, would not allow. Just was not in the stars...

I have always enjoyed the photos and stories that went with this event.

A Special Thanks to all those, who made this happen for everyone else over the years.
Maybe next year...?? I hope so..

I'm glad I made the 500 mile, one way trip down with some fellow NCKA'ers the last two years. Thanks, Jim and crew for your previous efforts.

If NCKA were to ever cancel one of our tournies I think we'd have a riot on our hands.

BTW - if anyone is down for a road trip you are all more than welcome to come fish our tournies. One of the biggest and best is coming up in August in Albion.

Sad news, indeed.....
