It was nasty out there today! Headed out at 3 and fought wind the whole time with some decent swells. It was brutal out there. The ocean can be just as unforgiving as it is giving. It seems the 3 that were rescued are doing alright one is still in icu with tubes but getting better.

I was in the Seaforth tackle shop looking at gear and heard the boats captain on the radio talking to the lifeguards / coast guard. Guys at the shop said it was pretty bad. About 10 mins later I was fishing from the jetty that is the entrance to Mission bay and saw the Seaforth boat hauling ass into the harbor with coast guard escort. Glad to hear all will make a recovery and kudos to the skipper and crew on the Seaforth boat.

about one year ago

i was fishing on a 3/4 day boat . if i remember correctly , i believe catalina . we were near shore fishing the kelp for calicos . we came across a capsized tadem kayak with its two occupants in the water and the kayak upside down . i think they might have launched from the landing , or beach with the hotels and rentals. the water was very rough and choppy and full of structure and rocks , which obviously are very dangerous under these conditions . who knows how long they were in water , but they could not do a recovery . the captain maneuvered into positioned to help them . it was fortunate rescue for them . who know what would have happened if not for the boat being in the vicinity . one other positive thing going for them was the fact they had their life vests on . be careful everyone . after i saw the captain had everything under control , i took full advantage of all the anglers on the bow. with run of the whole rail , i quickly tossed out a fresh one , and nailed a nice 5 lb. bonito on my curado .
