Tweaking Scotty Rod Holders

I have a PA with rail mounted Scotty rod holders, the large ones. Problem is with the rods all the way into the holder, the rod end is either in my lap or resting on the seat. I fixed this problem today with two pieces of 1 1/2 black pvc from the Home Depot and slid them into the holders. I secured them with a timy screw. They fit perfect. You wouldnt even notice them if I didnt point them out.

I cut the tubes just short enough to allow my fresh water spinning reels to rest below the locking collars. The end of the rod is exposed about an inch. The salt water rods fit great just above the collar and are fully supported. Such a simple task makes it so much nicer.

Just thought i would toss it out there, it made my day.

A couple of us will be out at the Corona Pond tomorrow. Ill be in the green proangler with a gigantic bait tank ( field testing while fishing) and a blue outback..... Paddle on up

Here are some photos of the modified holder. I used white pvc for the photos.

Unmodified holder with a freshwater rod exitting out the bottum and past the seat

As an example white pvc tube was used for pictures. A small set screw was used to secure tube in holder.

Rod set in holder. The pvc was set deep enough for the reel to go below lock collar

Salt water rig clears seat by approx one inch close to horizontal
