Holy shiit, you could install a DVD player with speakers in that thing. You could take a fishing tutorial dvd and play it on the water. If I don't catch a fish soon I'll be the first to try it. lol

I got to check out the prototype of this last weekend. I'm not sure when it will be out, but I'll do a little homework and report back.

I know someone that would probably cut a hole in the front there. For when he gets lonely.

Obviously not designed for surf launches.

It should work fine for surf launching as it locks into position. Also it will elevate your electronics so that they do not get as wet as often. Pretty cool deal.

With that thing installed you'd have to take a swim just to get to the forward hatch. I think I'll pass.

I guess it would be okay in small surf. I was just thinking it could be a problem in big surf. Would be great in the bays or otherwise. How much does it weigh?

The weight depends on how much stuff you mount on it and put inside, of course, but it should be very light before adding anything to it. It is rotomolded plastic and hollow inside.

Word from Malibu Kayaks is that it should be available in 1-2 months. OEX should have it as soon as it's available. That's all the info I've got, so stay tuned.

Sahwheet! I like it, but I'm sort of a gadget guy.

It probably would not work very well on my beat up FND, because it would block access to the middle hatch. Bummer, because that would be a great answer for a lot of my organizational OCD issues.

Besides, if Doug won't install it, then it really is way over the top!

I was watching a show early on weekend morning about kayak fishing in Hawaii. This dude had a seat and foot rests stapped to the back of his kayak (facing reverse). He called it a fighting station. His knees were in his chest but seemed to work for his target species. Not necessary with our relatively small inshore species but cool nonetheless...

If it is watertight it might help with righting a capsized kayak, if it takes on water when the yak was upside down it might make it very hard to flip over. Innovation is cool, usually.... Mine would definitely have a stereo with waterproof mini-speakers, and an expresso machine for those early mornings.

Sean called me into his office last time I was at the factory and showed me the unfinished fiberglass design. OEX in SD got it ready to show at I Cast.. I told him that there definitely was a market for this. It will be pretty cool.

A couple alterations or maybe a different model, might make it adaptable to the F'n Dock... OOPs I mean the FND.

Dave, if you put in a hi-fi system and an espresso machine, then I will be your new best fishin buddy!

Needs to address the slack needed in the transducer cable to allow for the movement, and need to ensure the battery for the FF and other electronics is sufficiently separated to not disturb the compass reading (if you have one on it). I let Sean and the designer know last month, so I'm sure they have a solution for that by now.

Roger that DG. It looks cool- but the forward hatch becomes useless unless you hit land or call a buddy for assistance.
