LJ 10/04/14

Backed out of recent trips due to ailments.

Finally got out today, and now we pay. We're just too overzealous when we finally get on the water. Today, it's all about sunburn, fatigue, and sore muscles in every part of the body, even some that we didn't know existed.

At the beach in the dark, left the launch after loading everything, well after dark. 12 hours on the water, not too untypical, for a couple of crazy of "oldtimers". Paddled maybe 10-12 miles.

Bait was a little difficult to get, but we managed a 50-50 mixture of greenies and spanish that lasted through the many sea lion onlslaughts, and a good supply of bonitos that damaged many baits.

After the search for the "right kind", we ran across Don. If you're reading this Don, it was a great pleasure to meet you. Thank you for your company and what you provided

Don was fishing near some lobster pots, and he let us know of some good bottom fish action. Additionally he provided us with 2 quality fish for tacos to eat (tonight, tomorrow). While fishing alongside him, we got a brief chance to see a hammerhead shark. We had had hoped to see one, along with a sea turtle, mission accomplished on the first, but not the second one. Boy, those hammerheads can fly through the water when they're on a mission.

We finally got a chance to catch our own bottomfish on the next set of pots we went to find. Blues, chuckleheads, couple of very small reds and a couple of whitefish. Our tasty rewards for a long day of hard work and enjoyment.

Julie found a friend, we usually do...

Had to share this photo I took of my buddy on the water. Conditions was so great at LJ but the bites were so slow. Taken with my galaxy s4 active.

Nothing better for the body and soul to be on the water. Way to put in a long day! Jim
