IT PAYS TO KEEP YOUR EYES OPEN

I was given a full refund by West Marine for a HDS-5 Gen 2 that I purchased back in February 2013, the unit had a bad transducer cable. Weird thing about this is that rather than just giving me a new transducer they gave me a full refund of $736 which was the original purchase price.

Anyway, I use the $736 to purchase a new HDS-7 Touch Gen 2 for $649 and a new 50/200 tranducer for $89, I ended up paying $3.58 for both items.

This weekend I see that the HDS-7 Gen 2 price dropped to $599 so yesterday I head over to West Marine to get a price match, I get back $54

Today I see that the price on the HDS-7 dropped again, this times it at $468. I call West Marine and they issue a credit to my bank account for $143.

Basically, I got refunded just shy of $200 in two days.

What was the value of the time and gas you spent working on this and driving back and forth? What was the opportunity cost of not doing something more important?

Anyway, you probably forced them to lose money, so you win

So there's one honest WM employee who probably felt guilty about selling HDS-5's back in the day to Hispanic kayakers at double the price. But that wasn't really a large impact as there are only two in all of SoCal...EastLosYakker and you. Jim.

I'm less than 20 miles from the west marine store in long beach. One of the trips that I made was during a return trip from Irvine, I'm not sure if this counts as double dipping or as a single trip.

On another trip I rode my motorcycle, it gets about 35mph so 40 divided by 35.....carry the 1.....add 2 drop and the 6........subtract the 3 and move the decimal point over twice..............

What was the opportunity cost of not doing something more important?

I would not have saved $200..........duh.

Anyway, you probably forced them to lose money, so you win

Sorry kiddo, you're wrong........here's why

From West Marines website

http://www.westmarine.com/CustomerSe...atching-Policy

If you find a lower price on an identical product (brand and model) currently in stock at a retail store located within 50 miles, West Marine will match that price (excluding shipping/handling charges or taxes) within 30 days of purchase, subject to the exclusions discussed below.

Ironically, its the very first paragraph on their Price Matching Policy and YES, this also applies to anything you buy at their store or website

By the way, two weeks ago I returned two Teramar rods to Shimano in Irvine, both rods had Manufacturers defects, both had a lifetime warranty and one was purchased back around 2009. I received a new Teramar rod last week and should be getting the second one sometime this week.

I really hope that Shimano and West Marine do not go out of business because I took advantage of a policy that they created.
So, long story short. I will continue to check the West Marine website until 12/25, that's the day I reach 30days from the date of purchase.

Sounds like a great shopping bargain. The real question Jorge is does the HDS-7 Touch Gen 2, handle rolling a Hobie PA 14 in the surf any better then the HDS-5 did.

The transducer still works and the issue with the nut came be fixed. Again, I thought they would probably just give me a new transducer so I was surprised when they told me they would refund me all of me money, on top of that they told me to keep the old unit.

I really hope that someone jumped on that $468 deal because it's gone now.

I am surprised to see any kind of warranty on anything electronic, most of the time if you plug something in all bets are off. This is great business sense by West Marine. Happy customers keep coming back, hopefully the manufacturer stands behind them but one way or another it's very smart on West Marines part. I haven't bought from them yet but they will be where I go when I buy my VHF radio.
