Sunday report for LJ - Kayak Fishing Adventures on Big Water’s Edge

Easy greenies at the pier, just before and after 1st light. Started fishing up north just before 7:00AM. Only came up with leopards and a single bonie on the plug. One seal made short work of 6 mackeral baited up.
After noon we headed south. Began a quarter mile off the point circling out in front of the condo. Fished for another 3 hours. Began the paddle back to the launch and a dog was on us again. After cleaning Aaron of 3 baits, he headed towards Julie. Aaron tried sneaking the trap rig with a fresh mackeral down to the bottom. That seal came back, and Aaron's line peels off. Figuring a treble in his mouth might deter these guys Aaron lets it run and then sets the hook. He's on. Not wanting to lose a lot of line to the seal he works the 40 lb test to its fullest. A couple of minutes later the seal surfaces, BUT with a yellow in its mouth. Aaron's pissed. Finally bit by the right kind and couldn't even get one good run out of it before a dog was on it. He looks like the same big ass knothead that stole one a month ago. Determined to make him work for it, the tug-of-war begins. Ten minutes later, after noticing the seal's technique of surfacing away, then diving straight down below the 'yak where he would try for a new hold of the yellow, he seized this opportunity. When the seal went to regrab it down below, Aaron pulled with greater pressure, straight up, and bounced it on deck. Expecting the big dog to board the yak, he quickly armed himself with paddle. Here's the pic of the 9 lber that fought like a 500 lber:

Fortunately, the seal only shreaded the tail without leaving any bite marks in the flesh. Unfortunately, the battle might have stripped the anti-reverse in his Torium 20 reel, as the handle began going backwards. Oh well, it felt good to deprive him of that fish

After 12 hours on the water yesterday, our backs are little sore this morning :roll: .
