I have gone out on a full day trip with Kevin, AKA Sea Samurai. Kevin knows la Jolla very well and is very helpful. Had a great time and caught a lot of yellows. I wouldn't try to recreate the wheel, the guides you mentioned are all very reputable. Good luck

I didn't see that when I searched the terms guide & reviews.

But let's leave that thread for discussion whether using guides is ok or not, and post here if you have something to report about them.

Or, if you think guides are a terrible soul-destroying force of evil, feel free to do as one BWE'er has already done and send me a PM offering to let me tag along with you and learn from someone who didn't need a guide.

All I can say is that I would have been lost throughout the 70s without my guide.

The past year has to go on record for the most newbies catching their first yellows. Its also been incredibly easy to get picked up with just trolling a green back. Prior years haven't been this way.

If yellowtail are what you want to target there is no doubt you can get it done yourself with some questions answered on this board or at the shores.

That said there is no replacement for the amount of knowledge Josh and I'm sure Kevin drop on you. They elevate your game and provide you with a new perspective.

Being ready and reading the patterns were the biggest advantages Josh helped me with a few years back. From time to time I have still had to suck up my pride at the launch coming in without a fish but hey that's fishing...
