Need La Jolla Advice - Kayak Fishing Adventures on Big Water’s Edge

I may venture down there this weekend, and in preparation I've been combing the forum, which has been helpful. But I'm curious about how to handle my beach wheels. I'd really like to avoid bringing them with me at sea, which means taking them back to my car prior to launch (and retrieving once I return) but I seem to remember someone recommending against leaving the yak unattended. Advice?
