Eastern Sierras

Here's a couple of photos of the first trip of the year and it’s off to a great start.
First cast at Convict Lake = 4.9 pounder
Second cast 4.3 lbs
20 other trout from 10”to 16” released.
Quit early LOL

Did they fight like freshwater yellow tail.
What did you get them on.

Is that the first lake you stopped at and are going to keep heading north or are you just sticking to Convict and possibly Crowley (if it's not still iced over)?

Crowley has been ice free for over a week.
Staying at a friends house in Mammoth then moving over to Silver lake Friday morning when the campground opens.
I?ll be fishing mostly Silver when I move in there
That pic is from Twin Lakes in Mammoth.
If you zoom in you can see just a small hole where the falls are visible.
The road to the upper lakes is blocked with about 6? snow

The big one splashed at the net but came right in, the second one pulled line and tangled on my partners line. I thought we were going to lose it...LOL
Luck prevailed
Are you planning a sierra's trip this summer Mitchel?

Curious to know how you do at Silver. Haven't caught too many out of there last year as previous years but June was great and so was Grant. I don't bother with Gull where I mainly caught perch.

Thunderstorms

The weather pattern has changed to Thunderstorms.
Beautiful till about noon then showers around 2 or 3pm.
Fishing is slow at Silver, nothing Big so far.
Catching about 4 fish a day for each of us.
No Browns yet.
I'll set some Crawdad traps tomorrow morning.
The lake level is coming up so fast that water is seeping underground and flooding about a dozen campsites. I was lucky enough to arrive on the morning the campground opened for the season so the camp hosts gave me a new site up in the back of the campground. it's not next to the lake as I usually book, but it is the closest to Alger creek and the falls are roaring and seem especially loud at night, tons of frogs too since there's so much water, quite the natural orchestra.

Crawdads

The little Bugs were crawling! I set 4 traps with chicken and a can of cat food for two nights and this morning I collected about 60 mixed sizes.
We kept about 40 nice sized ones for a boil tonight and released all the little guys.
They were DELICIOUS
I was very surprised to see so many in the traps with the water temp between 46 and 48
Another surprise was the number of berried females.
Fishing was slow today at Silver lake. Sooooo we’re headed to Convict tomorrow for the last day of the trip. We’re hoping for a repeat of some Big hookups?!

Never had crawdads but I always see tons of them and traps at Silver. What do they taste like?

Can you snap a picture of June?

Convict

Convict paid off again today.
4 1/2Lbs, and about 15 C&R Rainbows and Browns at the inlet at Convict Lake on the 1/32 Black Gold Hookup baits with the Crawdad hot sauce!
The creek was flowing into the lake and forming an eddy that kept the PA in the perfect spot, every cast was a hit or a fish.
soooo much fun just casting into the riffles and flow!
