fresh to salt, oh my.

Title says it all, we have done all sorts of freshwater fishing. Deep sea off a charter a few times.

That said, i know theres alot of different ways of catching certain fish in certain areas. My question is out of newport, huntington area.. whats the best way to catch halibut, WSB, Sand bass and Calico (am i missing any other?)

Halibut: 2 - 4 oz with 2-3ft leader (bait) live mack, can plastics be used?

Sand bass: I've only used plastics straight down off charter. Anything better?

Calico: same as sandbass or fly line

WSB: fly line mack

Also, where is a good place to lauch out of newport - huntington area?

Also limits? i can't seem to find size limits of any of them.

Thanks
Leo

Size limits for Calico and Sand Bass are 12 inches. Halibut is 22, and WSB is 28. There are an infinite number ow ways to catch any of those fish. Just when you think you have seen it all someone comes up with a new way to get em. Best method will vary by many factors, but generally time of year is the most important.

Here is a link to Ocean Sport Fishing Regulations for reference regarding limit, size, and updated regulations which you can also pick up at any tackle shop.
