I'm looking at buying this combo used for $250. It appears to be in good condition. Is this a decent deal? How can you tell if the drag is in working order on an Avet?

Yes, that is a good deal if both are in good condition. The rod alone retails for 300+.

Tie the line to your friends waist

go out into the street in front of your house

Have your friend run around, jump and just sprint around

You slowly reel in your friend

After you land him (make sure to use a gaff) and the line did not break.......

Your drag is working well.
