Fish ID

What is it? Caught this guy the other day. Definitely not a sand dab nor halibut. I'm thinking it's a sole? Flounder?

Couple of guesses, and one non existent fish - but Mr Patrick has it right.

Petrale sole is typically an even brown color so the spots were throwing me off, but the pectoral fin length and shape is what sealed it.

I’m going with the turbot. I caught one in mission bay a few years back.

Thanks for the thoughts fellas. But, I'm not convinced that it's anyone of them to be honest. It is tasty though lol. Turbot more likely. The fins on the sides are round vs angle and pointed.

The high arch lateral line rules out Petrale Sole and Sanddab. The small tail rules out Halibut.

I think this is a Turbot.

A good rule is to never keep anything you can't positively identify.

Fantail Sole. They are very common around here, but show up in greater numbers about the same time the Halibut show up to spawn (or at least that is what I see).

Thanks for the ID Greg! Guess I should start targeting their larger cousins soon.
