Is there such a thing as a paddle extension?

While my wife and I were on our new tandem (Pelican 130T with 36" beam) this past weekend, I found my 220cm Cobra Power Edge to be a little... short.

Yes, yes, that's what she said. She actually said, "Hah! Your paddle is too short!". She didn't have the same problems because the beam is noticeably narrower at her front seat. As fun as it may be, we can't both sit in the front seat.

As I paddled I kept hitting the gunwales and the racket was driving me bonkers. I really had to lean out to one side to avoid contact and that got old pretty fast. It also forced me to adopt a fairly vertical paddle angle, so the drip rings were completely useless. I got wet directly from water falling off the paddle faces.

Instead of purchasing an entirely new paddle, I was wondering if there was such a thing as a paddle extension... a section that fits in the middle.

My Power Edge is already essentially a 3-piece, with a 20cm section in the middle. I'm guessing a 40cm piece to replace the existing middle section would just-about do the trick.

The Google and the Cobra site have been of no help.

Help me Obi-Wan!

Wow That was fast!

Will these work with my shaft diameter?

Are kayak paddle shafts standard diameters?

I don't know as I would not touch another mans shaft.
I would suggest contacting the mfgs and getting info from them that way if it does not fit they will be more likely to help you out, vs saying "that kid on the net said it would fit"

I already-did (contact Cobra, not touch another shaft). They just haven't responded to my inquiries yet... I'm starting to think they don't have such a thing and I'm going to have to make my own.

Dude! BWE must be good luck or something. I just got a call back from Cobra.

They don't make extensions, and apparently my paddle shaft-design (with a dual ferrule middle section) was only made for 1 year.

After talking with the guy on the phone, he's going to figure out how much to charge me for shipping one of their paddle shafts (before they mount the paddle face) and then I can cut and drill it to length/feather.

I might as well go to an exhaust shop and have them cut the dual ferrule section and weld in some extra aluminum pipe to retain the balance.
