I've just started fishing for halibut in the last two months or so. I'll leave the recommended halibut rigs to the veterans. Below are two items I'm experimenting with. I haven't seen them discussed too much so I wanted to post pics. It may be more simple to use some of the traditional tackle, but I like to try new stuff out....


I use this instead of the three way. The top swivel allows for the bait to swim freely. I caught my first legal with this.




I tie a sliding trap rig, but I hated the fact that the bait would hook on itself and curl. I added a rubber "stopper," which can still slide. I'm still experimenting with this.

I'll second RedSledTeam. I've never met a hali that wouldn't take a spear. They don't have to be hungry, they just have to sit still for a few seconds I prefer a heavy pole spear with a big double flopper head. Mike
