Bait tank pump- drag

Hey it's time to redo my bait tank. I am way behind the times on these things- my rig is super outdated, and in addition I am tired of dragging the bilge pump off the side. Years ago when Fish n Dives were the rage I had one. I rigged up this pump that sucked up water through one of the scupper holes in the tank well- doing so, I didn't have to add drag to my yak by having a bilge pump off the side. Now I have a prowler- the scupper holes aren't in a good location, it seems, to do this. I'm pretty sure I had an aerator pump or something like that on that old setup. I'd like to hear others input on how they solved this problem, if they thought it was worth doing. Yes I am aware of the blessed kayatank but I need the inside for storage as I like to fish Cardiff and that has some real waves.
Tx in advance for the input.

FYI you can still put your rods and such in with the KayaTank. You just will not have acess through the leaky 6" hatch anymore...

drag

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I will have to get off my lazy rear end and do some measuring- if I am going to use an aerator head it will require me to have a different shaped tank. I did have one like that in QM's site, as far as the aerator pump, but I am not sure if I've seen them in OC Prowlers. I will check both of those sites again.
Tx,
Jon

If he could use the Hobie Livewell, it'd be wise to get it right here at BWE's store...

...knock down 10% of the price with the BWE discount.

...save $$$, support the site, help pay for that webcam ISP monthly bill.

Wouldn't it?

Please think of that when posting links to products in other shops, that we likely have in our own store.

Shameless plug over and out.

THANK YOU!

I like my Thresher Tank fitted in a commercial milk crate from Jersey.

It holds rods, game clip, bait net, gaff, knife, a lipper, and more if you want.

I run it on a 6 volt 12 amp battery, and at 4.7 gallons its plenty big enough, verses Hobie's 8 gallons.

The entire set-up, tank, battery, crate, rod holders, and bilge pump, weighs 19 lbs. without water.
--------------------------------
You could probably use the T-Tank with a bilge pump that mounts inside, or outside of the tank itself, then run a piece of 3/4" hose through a scupper hole for reduced drag.
I believe Tanks are sold both with, and without pump gear so you can custom build to your own needs.
Lots of accessories to build a good tank are available at the BWE online store.
Heres a pic of my set up:

---------------------------------
Ron Lane, of Fastlane Sailing had a homemade tank set up the way you described how you would like Your to work.
ie. not dragging the pump.

I can only find 1 pic of his tank on my computer.
As I remember, the pump was located inside of the tank, and both the intake, and discharge hoses went through both rear scuppers.

L. Lauman had a similar set up on his Adventure.

I would bet Ron still has this tank down at the shop. Maybe give him a call and check it out.
