Pot of Yellow at the end of the Rainbow | 5-7-16

Headed out last Saturday morning. Figured I'd try and get a nice mother's day gift for the Mrs. and Mother-in-law. Got to the launch and no fence up, a nice treat to roll onto the sand. The water was mellow with some light rain upon launching as a few guys pulled up. Cruised around and found bait a little deeper than usual. Dropped my homemade sabiki and got a nice mix bag of jack & greenies in a short time. After loading up on bait, made rounds by fly line.

A few run-ins with some dogs and some decent rain made things interesting, but shortly after this appeared.

I put on a lively mac and headed south and after pausing for a moment the reel starts screaming. Turned into a nice yellow that wanted to play in the kelp.

Fish went 41" x 26.5 lbs bled and gutted.

Some video

Plenty of sashimi for the evening and another great day on the water!

Congrats. They're still out there for those that don't give up. Just not in large numbers, they are certainly outnumbered by the Fu**n sea lions and on some days by the Threshers.

Nice Todd! I'm getting some new gear and I am almost into some free time. I'll hit you up to get some lines wet in a couple weeks.
