Revenge of the bonethead. If that would have been one of our local puppy makos that would have been a very ugly video. A little respect goes a long way. Mike

I'm the guy in this video

I'm the guy in this video. My wife sent it to my niece who's husband sent it to another friend and it went on from there and wound up on this forum.

I'm from Tampa Florida and do my fishing in the Tampa area. With the conclusion of Shark Week a few weeks ago, I thought I would post a video I made a while back. THIS IS HOW NOT TO RELEASE A SHARK FROM A KAYAK. I caught a Bonnethead shark while out on the kayak. I clamped him in the mouth with a lip-gripper and pulled him onto my lap to remove the hook. The hook was not coming out so I had to cut the line anyway. To release him, I held onto the lip-gripper and his tail in order to place him headfirst back into the water. The plan was to drop his head in, release his mouth then let go of his tail and let him drop in. It didn't happen that way. He swung around and tried to bite me as soon as I released his mouth. I'm glad I was somewhat ready for it, or I may not have a nose on my face today. Next time I release a shark, I will put him completely in the water before releasing his mouth or not drag him into the kayak in the first place. You live and learn. I didn't realize until later that I had the whole thing on video and how close it came to biting me. I've handled quite a few sharks in the past and never had a close call like this.
