NP 6/20.. nothing to write home about

I took the day off of work (6/20) and hit NP with a buddy who has never fished on a yak. He tired out and got sea sick after about two hours and decided to fish on the Kids Beach pier for the rest of the day. I keep telling him he was working too hard and to slow down but he didn’t listen. Since I didn’t want to be too far from him incase he needed tackle I stayed inside the harbor most of the day. I checked out the first kelp bed just south for a bit but I didn’t even see any lizard fish that are generally there.

I managed two short hali around 16-18” and lots of short calico and sandy. Nothing big enough to keep, several were 13.75”! Everything was caught on Carolina rig and live sardines. Plastics wasn't doing it for me yesturday. The sardines were small but extra lively yesterday. Most were alive and healthy after 8 hours in the hobie bait tank. The guys on the pier hooked up 6 hali, two were keepers and on monster bat ray.

I ended my day by dropping the yak on my head after my buddy decided to flip the yak off of the roof rack before I was ready…. Still a good day.

Falling kayaks are never fun, but at least you got some fish.
