I could be wrong, but charts show the southeastern terminus of LJ canyon extending past the line running due north from Pt La Jolla that demarcates the western boundary of the no fish zones, and puts some deep water off limits; but OP says he paddled across the canyon and onwards to safe territory, so he's good

Yep well past the reserve. The water gets over 300’ deep on the paddle out then goes to about 60’ then starts getting deeper again. I was at 120’ once the I passed the first deep section.
