Mission Bay or outside MB mouth 7/2/16

Heading down to Mission Bay tomorrow. Anyone else heading down that might be paddling outside the mouth/entrance? I'm interested in something bigger than the usual MB spotted bass. Got a taste for Calicos on a mothership trip a few weeks ago :-)

Watch the tide and make sure you ride it out and in. That channel sucks if youre fighting it.

True enough, I almost couldn't get back in paddling against the outgoing tide. A guy on a Hobie did okay though.

A guy on a Hobie did OK but was plum wored out fighting the tide. Even on a Hobie I plan my excursions out of mission bay to go with the flow...especially after pedaling all the way down to the Point Loma area, you are looking at over 1 hour of constant pedaling even with the tide.

I don't understand your timing. High tide was 9am and Low tide is at 2pm so it's only going to really start flooding out around 10-11am and back in around 4-5pm, maybe even later for both if you account for lag.

Exactly! Dead high tide is at 9. Which is when it starts going back out! Towards the ocean! 2pm is dead low tide which is when the tide starts to rise back up.

Lag is usually about a half hour which is why said 9-930 etc..
